Reading close to signing young Manchester United midfielder

Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage is set to join League One side Reading on a permanent deal.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have inserted a significant sell-on fee in the deal and would retain the right to match any bid for the midfielder in the future.

United have done similar deals for Zidane Iqbal and Ethan Laird this summer, so it’s an approach we may see United use more often in the coming years. It’s a shame we never managed to get such a clause when we sold Angel Gomes, though.

The report claims a decision to sell Savage was made in the best interests of the 20-year-old, who featured regularly on pre-season last year.

Savage made his debut in the Champions League against Young Boys in December 2021.

The exact value of Savage’s transfer is unknown. He spent last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, making 15 appearances as they suffered relegation to League One.
