Atalanta manager opens up on Hojlund’s future as Manchester United prepare opening bid

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has lifted the lid on Rasmus Hojlund’s potential exit amid strong links with Manchester United.

The Red Devils are reportedly preparing their opening bid for the 20-year-old forward and are well aware of emerging interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who have held talks with the player’s entourage recently.

Hojlund has already agreed personal terms with United and is keen to make the switch to the Premier League, however, the two clubs remain apart in their valuations for a transfer fee.

Gasperini spoke on the topic, which has quickly become a major talking point of the summer window as United finally look to fill their striker void.

He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I don’t know whether he’ll stay or leave, but I hope the club will value Hojlund around €80, 90 or 100 million fee.

“Rasmus is one of the best – if not the best – emerging talents in Europe as a striker.”

Work to be done in negotiations

Given PSG’s interest, United may feel more pressured into meeting an asking price, as they know the state-owned, Ligue 1 giants will be able to table the money that Atalanta are asking for.

If Erik ten Hag really sees Hojlund as his starting No.9 for the foreseeable future, the board better be ready to part with the cash.
