18-year-old Manchester United star told he will play role in first-team squad next season

Kobbie Mainoo is set for his breakthrough Manchester United campaign.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have ruled out sending the youngster on loan next term and have instead told him that he will play a part in Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad next season.

Mainoo, 18, started both of the club’s pre-season friendlies over the past week and has subsequently earned himself a spot on the plane for the pre-season tour of the United States.

Ten Hag awarded the midfielder his debut back in January during a Carabao Cup tie against Charlton Athletic, before granting him his Premier League debut weeks later in an off-the-bench cameo against Leicester City.

The report adds that Mainoo has left a lasting impression on the senior squad and sources describe him as ‘a real natural talent with high technical ability’.

Mainoo will eye breakthrough similar to Garnacho’s

He will hope to oversee a season similar to that of Alejandro Garnacho in 2022/2023, who was kept in the first-team instead of going on loan and saw out a scintillating breakout year. Now, the 19-year-old is a regular on the pitch and his next target will be earning a frequent place in the starting 11.
