Wayne Rooney jokes about Manchester United target being kept prisoner at Tottenham

Wayne Rooney wants Harry Kane at Manchester United.

The former Manchester United striker has jokingly said that it looks like Kane is being kept “prisoner” at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell his most prized asset, despite the fact the striker can leave for free next year.

Rooney believes Kane would be the ideal signing to solve United’s problems up front. He would also enhance our chances of being able to win major honours.

“I thought it was time to go last season and he stayed,” Rooney told The Athletic.

“Harry’s probably feeling that and knows there are trophies out there for him to win. He has done everything he can for that to try and be at Tottenham. Now probably is right for him to move on and it looks like he’s ready for that as well, but we know Tottenham can be quite difficult at times.”

Tottenham will be doing all they can to keep Kane and that will mean new contract offers.

Hopefully, Kane turns down any proposals and waits for the opportunity to join United whether that will be this summer or next year.

Bayern Munich are interested in signing the centre-forward but he won’t want to miss out on becoming the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer. That is something he would achieve at Old Trafford.

United are also targeting Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund as an alternative to Kane.
