Edwin van der Sar no longer in ICU; provides positive update from hospital

The football world got great news this evening as Edwin van der Sar announced he is out of intensive care.

Van der Sar, 52, was admitted to hospital after suffering a bleed on the brain whilst on holiday on the Croatian island of Hear earlier this month.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper was moved to a hospital in the Netherlands last week, but he confirmed in an encouraging update that he hopes to return home next week.

Accompanied with a picture of him in a hospital bed alongside his wife, Annemarie, Van der Sar wrote: “First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages. I’m happy to share that I’m no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I’m still in hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery!”

Van der Sar is one of the best goalkeepers to ever play for United. He joined the club in 2005 and made 266 appearances, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League.

We wish Van der Sar a speedy recovery.
