Manchester United’s Katie Zelem joins PFA Players’ Board

Manchester United Women captain Katie Zelem has joined PFA Players’ Board.

The 27-year-old Lioness is currently preparing for the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but news emerged this evening about her introduction to the PFA Players’ Board, which is made up of players from the Premier League, EFL and WSL.

Zelem will get to put her voice across at board meetings and it sounds like she’s looking forward to taking on the extra responsibly ahead of another exiting season at United.

“Often the people ‘higher up’ have not been through or had the same experiences we have and so myself and Danielle Carter [PFA Players’ Board member] try and put the voice across, and our opinions and experiences across, as much as we can for the female side of the game,” Zelem told the PFA, as per ManUtd.com.

“Hopefully we’re doing that well!”

As captain at Manchester United, Zelem will bring her experiences to the table in attempt to make the women’s game better for fellow professionals.

“Obviously, I’m the captain at Manchester United and I’ve had experiences with taking people’s voices and opinions and taking it higher up,” she added.

“I’m in a really privileged position with my club where my voice is heard, and I can liaise with the staff to make change. I really wanted to do that on a bigger scale.

“Hopefully I can take the opinions of [players from across] the league and the other teams and try to improve the women’s game.”

We would like to wish Katie the best in her role at the PFA. She also has European football to look forward to next season, which is an exciting prospect for Marc Skinner’s side.
