Aston Villa launch bid for £50m-valued Manchester United target

Aston Villa have kickstarted their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Midlands club has submitted a bid of around £29 million to bring the attacker to Villa Park this summer.

It was, however, swiftly rebutted by Leverkusen as they value Diaby at £50m. Both clubs remain in talks to find a resolution after the Frenchman agreed personal terms with Villa.

Premier League interest in Diaby

Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United were all linked with Diaby this week, so whether or not the clubs will enter a bidding war remains to be seen. Given that they boast Champions League football for the forthcoming season, it certainly could sway the player’s head.

For the Red Devils though, it looks highly unlikely. A goalkeeper and a striker is the utmost priority before another winger and the Bundesliga club have slapped too high a price tag on Diaby. United are instead working on deals for Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.
