Raphael Varane pays classy tribute to Gordon McQueen during friendly vs Leeds

A minute of applause was held for the great Gordon McQueen ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Leeds.

The former Manchester United and Leeds legend passed away last month at the age of 70 after a battle with dementia.

A colossus of football in the 1970s and 1980s, McQueen featured at World Cups for Scotland.

With six years at Leeds and seven years with United, the solid centre-back became one of his generation’s very best defenders.

That’s why it is fitting to see Raphael Varane, who captains United today, wearing ‘McQueen’ on the back of his shirt. The Frenchman is one of his generations best defenders and he is preparing for another big season at Old Trafford.
