Manchester United have handed new squad numbers to four promising players from the academy.

Preparations for the pre-season tour are already underway, and United play their initial friendly against Leeds in Oslo tomorrow evening.

A pre-season tour of America then follows where Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund await.

The full list of shirt numbers won’t be released until later this summer – to give time for new signings as well as exits – but United have now confirmed four changes.

Kobbie Mainoo has been handed the No.37 shirt after wearing the 73 shirt last term. The 18-year-old could get more chances to impress the coaches this season and it is understood that Erik ten Hag rates him highly.

Reserve goalkeeper Matej Kovar moves from No.40 to No.38 following Axel Tuanzebe’s departure.

Meanwhile, Spanish full-back Alvaro Fernandez jumps from No.72 to No.42 and Dan Gore will wear No.44.
