Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou breaks silence on Harry Kane’s future

Newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he’s had no assurances on Harry Kane’s future but wants the striker to stay at the club.

England’s all-time record scorer has been linked with a move from Spurs with one year left on his contract. There has been links to Bayern Munich, but it doesn’t sound like Daniel Levy is willing to let his man go.

Manchester United have been interested too, but the Reds won’t have the funds to spend over £100m on a new striker this summer. That is why they are seriously considering Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund as an alternative.

Speaking at his unveiling as Tottenham manager, Postecoglou admitted he is planning talks with Kane but is none the wiser about what his future will hold. He adds that he would like Kane to stay at the club.

“I don’t think it’s my role to sit there and treat people in a manner because of their circumstances,” Postecoglou said, as per the Manchester Evening News. “I am big on treating everyone the same.

“Harry is already entrenched in the history of this football club. He’s one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved here.

“My conversations with him will be about how we can make this club successful. I have no doubt that is what he wants as well.

“Within that, whatever that narrows into and the personal stuff around Harry as an individual, if the conversation takes it that way, we’ll take it that way. I have no doubt it won’t be defined in the manner people think it will be.

“It won’t be a conversation where we walk out of the room with an understanding because I don’t want that

conversation. I want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision for the football club and get an understanding from him of what he thinks the football club needs to be successful.

“We will go on the training pitch and try to make it happen. I haven’t had any assurances and I wouldn’t expect any.

“With these types of situations, you’re never dealing with certainties. I can only go with what I know right now. Harry is part of the squad and looking forward to being back and part of the players.”
