Manchester United consider terminating defender’s contract to sanction quick departure

Manchester United are reportedly considering terminating Eric Bailly’s contract to allow for a quick departure.

That’s according to AS, which confirms that Real Betis are interested in acquiring the defender’s services – but only if they can do so for free.

The Ivorian’s deal will expire this time next year, though Erik ten Hag is keen to offload deadwood this summer, with Bailly among the expected outgoings.

Not only is he wildly injury-prone, but his performances in recent seasons have been nowhere near the standard expected at Old Trafford in this new era.

Bailly, 29, spent last term on loan with Ligue 1 side Marseille and the French club have shown no desire to make the spell permanent after an underwhelming campaign.

Stretty News’ verdict

It seems ill-advised to not try and get at least some funds from the Ivorian’s exit, especially at a time when Ten Hag needs all the help he can get budget-wise.

However, if United are demanding a set price tag, it’s unlikely that clubs will be lining up to cash in.
