Edwin van der Sar has been admitted to hospital after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage, as confirmed by the Dutch outlet Telegraaf.
The 52-year-old was holidaying in Split, Croatia before falling ill with the haemorrhage. He was subsequently transported to the hospital by helicopter, where he remains in Intensive Care and under doctors’ supervision.
Ajax, one of his former clubs and most recent workplace, have confirmed that Van der Sar has suffered bleeding around the brain but is currently in a stable condition.
The Eredivisie side shared an update on Twitter, which can be seen below:
On Friday, Edwin van der Sar has had a bleeding around his brain. He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in a stable condition.

Back in 2009 and during Van der Sar’s time at Manchester United, the ex-goalkeeper’s wife also suffered a cerebral haemorrhage but thankfully made a full recovery.
