Manchester United schedule talks with David de Gea as contract expiry looms

Manchester United plan to hold talks with David de Gea regarding his future at the club.

The Spaniard’s contract will expire when the clock strikes midnight tonight, leaving him technically a free agent.

It was confirmed this week that De Gea, 32, had actually put pen to paper on a new deal with lower wages before United pulled out of the proposal, as they still deemed the salary too high. They are yet to offer new terms to the goalkeeper.

United will hold talks with De Gea

According to Neil Custis of The Sun, the club will re-open negotiations with De Gea following his wedding this weekend.

He added that United are essentially leaving the ‘keeper hanging as they continue their search for a new No.1, with Andre Onana being heavily linked with a move from Inter Milan to the Red Devils.

Regardless of fans’ thoughts on De Gea, he has been a loyal servant to United for 12 years. The way he’s been treated by the hierarchy is inexcusable and should he leave, he deserves a fitting send-off.
