Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer and Erik ten Hag has once again set his sights on Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to reports.
Rabiot was one of the club’s principal targets last summer, with Old Trafford officials making regular trips to Turin before they eventually agreed a fee with the Italian giants.
A deal collapsed at the 11th hour, however, after United failed to reach an agreement with Rabiot’s representatives over personal terms and wages.
Now, roughly one year later, it is being reported by The Athletic that United are once again in talks with Rabiot’s entourage over a summer move but this time, he is available on a free transfer after running his contract down at Juventus.
Rabiot boasted a leading role at Juventus last season, with manager Max Allegri viewing him as one of the clubs’ leaders and his status with the French national team is similar.
In the report, it’s added that in addition to contacting Rabiot’s people, United have also been in touch with Moises Caicedo’s representatives.
SN’s verdict…
United have been linked to a host of midfielders, with Mason Mount and Caicedo among those to be paired most frequently but it makes sense to sound out a move for Rabiot.
Last year, the calamitous collapse of their Rabiot pursuit ended in the club bringing Casemiro in from Real Madrid and in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise. Twelve months on, Rabiot would be joining a far more advanced side.
