Manchester United have held internal discussions over Declan Rice, while Man City join the transfer race for West Ham’s star midfielder.

Man City’s interest in Rice is thought to come as a major blow for Arsenal. The Gunners have seen two bids pushed back by the Hammers, which has left the door open for rival bidders to enter the race.

The Athletic claims that City are ready to show their hand. An approach from the Etihad Stadium could be made within the next 24 hours, with Pep Guardiola keen to quickly find a replacement for the departing Ilkay Gundogan.

Up until now, Arsenal were thought to be Rice’s most likely destination this summer, but a nine-figure sum is expected to make City front runners.

Where do Manchester United come into this?

While Sky Sports claim United retain interest in Rice, Financial Fair Play rules made it difficult for us to shell out so much money on one player.

For that reason, United are looking at other options in midfield – but selling players would increase Erik ten Hag’s spending power in the market.

A report yesterday suggested that United could offer a player-plus-cash exchange deal for Rice. Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay were two players touted as options for West Ham.

We can forget about that if City offer a nine-figure sum for Rice.
