Manchester United are keeping tabs on Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are interested in the 19-year-old but are focusing on a deal for Mason Mount.
United saw their £40 million opening bid for the Chelsea star swiftly rebutted but are lining up an improved proposal worth £50 million.
Arsenal active on United’s targets
Meanwhile, Arsenal are actively pursuing Lavia and have kickstarted negotiations with his camp and with the Saints, so if United are eyeing the sought-after teenager as a Mount backup, they may want to act quickly.
Lavia received plaudits for his efforts across the past season despite Southampton ultimately falling down to the Championship. He is a product of Manchester City’s academy and has already made his international debut for Belgium.
His club are hoping to make a record fee by sanctioning his exit.
The Gunners are also preparing a £90 million bid for Declan Rice – another player that has been linked with United and whom they are now set to miss out on.
Looks like the Old Trafford faithful are in for a long summer!
