Manchester United see £40m bid for Mason Mount swiftly rejected by Chelsea

Manchester United have had a £40 million bid for Mason Mount rejected by Chelsea.

Matt Law of The Telegraph reported earlier today that the Red Devils were confident Mount would not sign a new deal with Chelsea. He later confirmed that an offer had been submitted and quickly rebutted.

The Blues are standing firm in their high valuation of the midfielder, despite him having just one year remaining on his current deal.

As it stands, the two rivals are around £30 million apart in their valuations of Mount.

United plan second Mount bid

The transfer window officially opened today and will run until September 14, so there’s plenty of time for an agreement to be reached that sees the Cobham graduate make a switch to Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that United are preparing another bid, though whether or not it will meet Chelsea’s asking price remains to be seen.

Ultimately, they may be forced to turn their attention elsewhere, as almost £100 million on a player who will become a free agent next summer seems ludicrous.
