Manchester United accept bid for 20 y/o academy graduate

Manchester United have accepted a bid for youngster Zidane Iqbal.

The Athletic confirmed this evening that the Red Devils have given the green light for Iqbal to join Eredivisie club FC Utrecht for a fee of around €1 million.

A medical has already been completed this week, with the Iraq international now readying the move on a four-year deal. United have included a “significant sell-on clause” in the terms.

Despite making his first-team debut during a Champions League clash with Young Boys in 2021, Iqbal did not make one single appearance under Erik ten Hag. He was included in the matchday squad 17 times but was not granted any game time across the past season.

Stretty News’ verdict

Another example of utterly silly business from United.

Iqbal is highly rated by supporters and especially those that have followed him through the academy.

He was not given the chance to develop his skills with any loan spell, and Ten Hag also blocked him from representing his national team at the U20 World Cup this year. For what reason?

Even if the club were adamant about selling him due to a lack of first-team opportunities, the slightest amount of game time last term or sending him on a loan to a team that would’ve utilised him could have raised his valuation considerably.

  1. This is the reality of this f*****g lie of a club. It’s a lie they hear fans, another that they trust it’s academy, another is that they always look for excellence. I’m fed up of this decisions. I saw Pogba leave and I said exactly the same thing back then. This manager is an authoritarian fascist and a joke, bc half of his transfer targets are not even better skilled than some of our youngsters. And more of a joke still, his number one transfer target would’t be a starter for our biggest rivals. And yet lets Iqbal leave for peanuts, one of the most gifted academy players I’ve seen in 25 years. This will fire up his f*****g ass. I’m done

    1. if anything united’s board have listened far too much to the know-nothing fans – people who see the class of 92 every bloody year in the academy. the same know-nothings who supported OGS buffoonish management.

if iqbal is so good, then why is he signing for FC Utrecht exactly? they came 7th last season. in the awful eredivisie. yet apparently he’s amazing? no decent club has come in for him at 1m yet apparently he is good enough for united? make that make sense.

Also to use the term fascist is not only ridiculous but frankly offensive to the peoples who have actually suffered under fascist regimes so best to not throw that word around, especially when written.

  2. No happy about that at all !! This lad looked like the future . Loads of potential and skill full ! Infact he would have done better in the middle of the work than Fred or Mc !! Horendeous management. this will come and bite use
    on the arse us

  3. Indeed we have messed up on this guy. He is talented with skill. Eric could have loaned this guy than selling him him at that little man. Look at the academy graduates of Chelsea. Mount, Gallagher etc how they are doing. Lets learn how to work with the academy players than sending them like that
