Manchester United left disappointed by defender’s social media antics

Manchester United are reportedly unhappy with Brandon Williams’ post-match rant following the Champions League final.

On Saturday, Manchester City became the second English side (United being the first) to complete a treble after securing their maiden Champions League title with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan.

Obviously, the result did not go down too well with United fans, and seemingly it didn’t with the players either.

Academy graduate Williams took to Instagram to voice his opinions and shared numerous stories throughout the night, having digs as City by saying “Nobody wants a sloppy seconds”.

The 22-year-old also criticised Rio Ferdinand, who was on BT Sport’s punditry line-up during the match, for heaping praise on Pep Guardiola and his players.

Williams continued: “@rioferdy5 Bet you don’t congratulate if you was player keep the same morals. too face is boring. You don’t praise simple as. Fakessssssssss for [money emoji].”

According to ESPN, United are “disappointed” with the defender’s comments and have opted to distance themselves from the bizarre posts. A source also told ESPN that it was “not welcomed”.

Williams continues to fall in the pecking order

Given how much he’s struggled to break into the team as it is, he may have lowered his chances even more now.

Across the 2022/2023 campaign, Williams made just one five-minute cameo in a fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against Burnley and finished the term playing for the Under-21s.

His contract will expire next summer and whilst the club have the option of extending his stay by a further year, it’s highly unlikely he’ll last until then.
