Manchester United takeover: breakthrough as preferred bidder set to be named

It looks like we are finally approaching the end of the takeover saga at Manchester United as it has emerged that the two frontrunners to acquire the club from the Glazer family are now finalising the details of their proposals.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS firm have gone head-to-head against Sheikh Jassim’s Qatari consortium for the entirety of this calendar year but the drawn-out process has left supporters frustrated.

Initially, it looked like a takeover could have been completed within the first three months of 2023 but the process has taken longer than expected and is now running the risk of comprising Erik ten Hag’s summer plans.

Ratcliffe and Jassim have both submitted multiple bids in several rounds of offers but recently, Jassim has lodged two rogue offers in a desperate attempt to gazump his counterpart.

After several weeks of deliberation, it now looks like judgement day has arrived as supporters could get treated to a conclusion as early as next week.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that both parties are in touch with Raine Group, the middlemen tasked with overseeing the sale, as we enter the final stretch.

As per the report, it was first believed that Ratcliffe had the ball in his court after his bid was deemed to be more lucrative but Jassim’s late offers mean that it is now an even playing field.

Both sides of the bidding are hoping to learn in the coming days who the preferred bidder will be in what could be the biggest deal in sporting history.

It’s claimed that Ratcliffe and his camp had been in advanced talks with Raine Group for a number of weeks but Jassim’s eleventh-hour bid seems to have stirred the pot.

The two sides are also structuring their proposals differently. Jassim’s bid is for 100% of the club, with Ratcliffe only seeking immediate control of 60%.
