Manchester United loanee tastes Europa League glory after knocking out parent club en route to final

Manchester United loanee Alex Telles won the Europa League with Sevilla last night after defeating Roma in the final.

The final in Budapest went to a penalty shootout, with the sides drawing 1-1 after regular time and extra time.

Telles could only watch on from the dugout at this point, as he had been substituted in the 95th minute with an injury concern.

Luckily, his teammates were able to get the job done without him, as they netted four penalties to Roma’s two and went on to lift the trophy for a record-extending seventh time.

The Spanish side knocked out United in the quarter-finals of the competition after a dominant performance (and a dismal one from the Reds) at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan saw the tie finish 5-2 in their favour on aggregate.

Ten Hag lines up Telles exit

Telles will return to Old Trafford this summer but has likely already played his final game for the club. Erik ten Hag has outlined the 30-year-old left-back as a potential departee to help raise funds in the forthcoming transfer window.

He joined the Red Devils in 2020 and made 50 appearances under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
