Opinion: The players Manchester United need to move on this summer

Although you are just going to have to accept this list is going to be massively unrealistic simply because it is too big, wages are too high, and Manchester United tend to struggle when it comes to selling players.

With that, I have complied a hypothetical list of current United players that need to be sold, in my opinion.

It’s important to put it out there that I trust Erik ten Hag’s judgement more than anybody at the club. The Dutchman’s agency SEG will have a hold over recruitment and John Murtough will be expected to deliver what the manager wants.

And to sign the players he needs, United need to start with out summer clear out.

Here are the players I want to be shown the door this summer.

David de Gea

Nobody can fault the Spaniard as a fantastic club servant, which he has been down the years but now it’s time to move on. It is a ridiculous idea to give him a new contract on the basis he is likely to be second choice goalkeeper. We need a new number one.

Dean Henderson

I still have nightmares about that talkSPORT interview when he behaved like a brat after joining Nottingham Forest on loan. Show him the door and take the money.

Harry Maguire

Wasted on the bench when he could make it as a decent first team regular at a mid-table Premier League side. It’s time to take Maguire out of his misery of bench warming.

Axel Tuanzebe

Full of promise as an academy player but too injury prone.

Brandon Williams

Not cut out for this level.

Alex Telles

Ten Hag didn’t want him at the start of the season and the club could only muster a loan deal. Say goodbye this summer for good.

Fred

At 30, I don’t see the point is letting his value drop by spending more years at United when he isn’t going to get many starts in the team. I trust Scott McTominay more, too.

Donny van de Beek

The Netherlands international has been a disaster from start to finish since joining United from Ajax. Ten Hag should let him leave on a permanent deal this summer.

Anthony Martial

United haven’t got any options up front but I am completely fed up with Martial. The manager can’t rely on him anymore, and he never could in the first place.

  1. The club will regret letting Macguire go. He is a natural finisher albeit in the wrong end of the pitch sometimes.
