Manchester United opt against permanent deals for Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer

Manchester United will not make Wout Weghorst’s or Marcel Sabitzer’s loan moves permanent this summer.

That’s according to Mail Sport, which confirms that Sabitzer will return to Bayern Munich in June and Weghorst will head back to newly-promoted Burnley where, if he stays, he could line up against the Red Devils next season.

It means that the Austrian has played his last game for United, as he sustained a season-ending meniscal injury a fortnight ago. His final appearance was an off-the-bench cameo during the 1-0 loss to West Ham United earlier this month.

Weghorst not clinical enough to lead United’s line

Erik ten Hag’s decision on Weghorst likely comes as no surprise to supporters. The manager was keen on recruiting a prolific No.9 in the winter transfer window and ended up with the Dutch forward, who finished his stint as a Red with no Premier League goals to his name.

Finding the back of the net proved to be troublesome for Weghorst, but he’d certainly end his spell on a high if he was able to contribute in Saturday’s FA Cup final on Saturday.
