Ben Foster gives verdict on Manchester United potentially signing Mason Mount

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has given his verdict on Mason Mount’s potential move to Old Trafford.

The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer and The Athletic claim that Manchester United is his preferred destination over the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Mount’s contract runs out in 2024 and Chelsea are left in a situation where they cash in now or run the risk of losing him on a free in 12 months.

This has brought up lots of conversation since the final day of the Premier League season, when Roy Keane looked bemused at the idea on the Sky Sports.

Former United keeper, who currently players for Wrexham, has told United Stand [YouTube] he thinks the Reds should move for Mount this summer.

Foster also throws Rice into the mix, although there is an understanding that he wants to remain in London.

“I like Mason Mount,” said Foster. “It’s inevitable he is going to go. It’s a strange one for me, if I was Chelsea, I’m playing Mason Mount in the majority of games.

“He’s the sort of players you need in midfield. He will give you pure graft and work rate. Those are the player you need.

“If you could get him for £50 million £60 million, get him through the door. That opens the door for Declan Rice as well. Imagine getting them two, that’s a big boost.”

We will learn more about Mount’s future in the coming weeks now that Chelsea know who will be their manager next season following Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment.
