Mikael Silvestre has warned his former club Manchester United against a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.
Verratti, who has been at PSG for 11-years, has endured a difficult season at the Parc des Princes. The Italy international has just one assist (no goals) to show for his 35 appearances.
This has led to suggestions in French media that the Italian could be ousted by the Ligue 1 giants.
According to Le Parisien and Actu Foot, as cited by Football Italia, there are several reasons behind PSG losing patience with Verratti.
The first issue is his performances this season. Next is his discipline off the pitch, especially when it comes to his weight.
PSG were believed to be unhappy with Verratti when he returned after the 2022 World Cup, which Italy didn’t qualify for, significantly overweight.
With Verratti available in the summer and United looking for midfield additions, former France international Mikael Silvestre has warned his former club against signing the PSG star.
Silvestre believes United should be targeting younger players.
Speaking to betting expert, Silvestre said (via Football365): “I like Marco Verratti a lot as a player. He’s fantastic whenever he plays for PSG or for the national team, but I think Manchester United has to go for younger players and build for the future.
“You already have Casemiro and Christian Eriksen who are in their early 30s and Bruno is approaching his 30s soon.
“So you need much younger players to build for the future.”
