Manchester United still interested in Yann Sommer despite January switch

Reports in Germany claim Manchester United are still interested in Yann Sommer, should he leave Bayern Munich in the summer.

According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, the Swiss goalkeeper has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that he can leave Bayern Munich in the summer if Manuel Neuer returns as number one.

Sommer was linked with a move to United in January but he ended up signing for Borussia Monchengladbach in an €8 million deal, as per BBC Sport.

The manager wasn’t backed with a transfer kitty and had to settle for Jack Butland on loan until the end of the season.

However, Bayern Munich are in total control of the situation since Sommer’s contract runs until 2025.

There is uncertainty over David de Gea’s future as No 1 under Erik ten Hag, despite reports suggesting he is set to sign a new deal at the club. It all comes with the growing belief that the Spaniard doesn’t fit the profile of a goalkeeper needed to fully implement the manager’s preferred style of playing.

Sommer, 34, is a sweeper keeper renowned for his distribution. Let us know in the comments section if you think he would be an upgrade on De Gea.
