Tony Cascarino urges Manchester United to consider move for Brentford star

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has urged Manchester United to consider a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney.

In his latest column, Cascarino wrote about Toney’s performance against Liverpool last Saturday and recommended all top Premier League clubs to sign the striker.

Toney has managed 20 goals in 33 league appearances this season and currently ranks third in the top scorer charts, behind Man City’s Erling Haaland and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane (via BBC Sport).

The 27-year-old’s performances for Brentford has put Toney in contention for a place in the England team – sitting behind captain Kane in the pecking order.

However, Toney is braced for a lengthy ban after accepting multiple charges of breaching the Football Association’s betting rules, as per The Guardian. That could result in the striker missing several months of action.

Cascarino not only compared Toney to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, but he also suggested several Premier League clubs –  United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal — should be trying to sign him this summer.

The columnist told The Times: “I cannot believe Ivan Toney’s improvement technically over the past 18 months. He was one of the best players at Anfield. The Brentford striker has added all sorts of deft touches to his game, such as the clever pass that assisted Bryan Mbeumo’s disallowed goal.

“He has a finesse which, dare I say it, echoes that of Dennis Bergkamp. Toney’s subtlety complements his stature and finishing. Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United should consider a move.”

United are in desperate need of a goalscorer and Toney would fit the bill if he didn’t have charges hanging over his head.

Do we really want to sign a player that faces a lengthy ban? That sounds counter-productive.
