Three Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in signing Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, including Manchester United.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail that claims Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham could activate the £40 million release clause in Min-jae’s contract. All three teams could do with defensive reinforcements but it would take something special for a centre-back to arrive and takeover from one of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
That said, United will need to sign a centre-back if Harry Maguire or Victor Leave leave and there’s a possibility both defenders could be sold.
While Min-jae has been linked to several clubs around Europe, it is said the 26-year-old would prefer a move to the Premier League.
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are the other clubs being linked with Min-jae.
The only way Napoli can remove Min-jae’s release clause – or increase it – is by persuading him to sign a new deal.
Min-jae could reject offers if his mind is set on leaving Naples at the end of the season.
Napoli are currently 16 points clear at the top of Serie A, but they will be fighting hard to keep their best players this summer. It would be a kick in the teeth for them to lose Min-jae for £40m in the summer.
