Manchester United team news: Trip to Newcastle comes too soon for Christian Eriksen

Manchester United take on Newcastle this weekend but the game comes too soon for Christian Eriksen, who is still recovering from an injury he picked up in January.

On the eve of the match, Ten Hag has issued a full update on his squad in an exclusive interview with club media.

He provided further updates on Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen.

Ten Hag was pleased that none of his players returned from the injury break with any injuries or niggles, despite fears over Marcel Sabitzer picking up a knock whilst away with Austria.

“It’s quite positive about all of the players,” he informed club media (via ManUtd.com), despite some doubts earlier in the week over Marcel Sabitzer. “Christian Eriksen is back on the pitch, not yet in the team training but I expect him in the coming week, [or] weeks, back in team training so will be available for games again.

“So we know how big an impact Christian Eriksen had on our game, but also others, like Anthony Martial, are also returning in team training and [there were] no injuries, luckily, from the internationals. That’s always a concern as a manager when the players leave you, how you get them back and, especially, in this stage of the season when it comes to the end, to the final stage.”

It will be a big boost to have Eriksen back available in the squad because our performances haven’t been as good without him. Yes, we still won the Carabao Cup and knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League, but there’s no denying that Eriksen was a huge influence throughout the first half of the campaign. Hopefully he can return and hit the ground running because it would be nice to see him win a trophy at the club.

Meanwhile, Tom Heaton is the latest player to be added to the injury list, although the back-up goalkeeper is expected to return before the end of the month.

To make matters worse, United will be without Casemiro for the next three domestic matches as he continues to serve a 4-match ban for his second red card in the Premier League this season.
