Manchester United ready to sell defensive duo

Manchester United are likely to be active in this summer’s transfer market and they will be keen to improve in one area that has been lacking potency in recent years.

United have spent recklessly in transfer windows gone by but they have also failed to generate cashflow through sales, something they will need to do this summer.

There are a number of players on Erik ten Hag’s periphery and they are unlikely to realistically challenge for a place in the first team anytime soon.

Eric Bailly and Alex Telles, both out on loan at Marseille and Sevilla respectively, fall into that category and now, it is being claimed that United are ready to part ways with both players.

That’s according to ESPN, who say that Bailly and Telles are among several senior stars who could face the chop as the club are looking to strengthen their financial muscle in the market.

In addition to the defensive duo, it’s claimed that Scott McTominay has attracted the interest of Newcastle United, with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Dean Henderson all monitored by other clubs.

Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are set to leave the club this summer upon the expiry of their contracts, whilst Anthony Elanga and Brandon Williams are expected to depart on loan deals.

SN’s verdict…
United have a bloated squad and although trimming it down by allowing first-team regulars to leave on loan last summer was just a temporary solution to a long-term issue, it’s absolutely paramount that United sell these assets now.

They cannot allow the wage bill to grow even larger and capitalising on some of the resale value is important to sustaining a business. Bailly and Telles, in particular, are two players who will almost certainly not feature for the club again.
