Brighton & Hove Albion teenage striker Evan Ferguson is the latest striker to be linked with a transfer to Manchester United following his incredible season in the Premier League.
We recently wrote about how fans should expect to see Manchester United linked a flurry of centre-forwards in the summer.
Some of them won’t be on Erik ten Hag’s transfer list when push comes to shove because the media are simply doing all they can to drive up clicks. And now it makes sense to add a few more names to the list since there’s an international break and that usually makes for a storm of transfer stories with little credibility.
This one, however, I hope has some truth in it – even if the source is questionable at best.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are keeping an eye on Brighton and Republic of Ireland sensation Evan Ferguson. It is reported that the Reds have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old as they prepare to launch a pursuit to sign him at the end of the season.
Ferguson only signed his first professional contract with Brighton on his 18th birthday in October and his contract runs for four-years.
The young striker has made 10 Premier League appearances for Brighton this term, scoring three goals and providing a further two assists.
He also scored in his Republic of Ireland debut during the week against Latvia in a 3-2 win at the Aviva Stadium.
United have also been linked with moves for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen this summer, but Ferguson would be a terrific understudy for either of those centre-forwards. Erik ten Hag should be demanding two new strikers in the summer. We get the feeling a lot depends on whether a takeover happens or not.
United fans already excited about Evan Ferguson
Most United fans will argue that Ten Hag needs an established, elite-level striker to lead the line next season and I would agree with that. But signing another goalscorer with the a high ceiling wouldn’t be the worst idea as we will require more than one goalscorer in a title-winning squad.
Following his maiden Ireland goal, several United fans took to social media to praise Ferguson and urge the club to make a move for him ahead of the summer transfer window.

United surely got to have half an eye on Evan Ferguson. This kid looks like he's going to lead the line for Ireland for at least the next decade.
Only 18 but looks like he's played senior football for years…#mufc
