Ahead of the potential takeover of Manchester United, we find that the club are being linked with a lot of players. Some which we know aren’t actual targets at a challenging time for Erik ten Hag to plan for the future – not knowing how much money will be available to him, especially if the Glazers remain.
The latest player Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for is Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma in the summer, as per the Daily Mail.
It is claimed United have already sent scouts to watch Mitoma on several occasions this season, with Ten Hag planning a summer clear-out at Old Trafford.
The manager should be looking to get rid of players regardless of a takeover being successful, but it may be the only way he can recruit new talent if the Glazers refuse to sell all their shares.
Arsenal have already been linked with the Japan international, who has 5 goals in 13 senior appearances for his country.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old has been one of the standout players for Brighton, in what has been an impressive season for the Seagulls after losing manager Graham Potter in September.
Brighton are seventh in the Premier League this season and will face United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
Mitoma, however, has been a Brighton player since 2021 and has since made 62 appearances for the Premier League outfit after costing them £2.5m (via Transfermarkt). During that time he has scored 30 goals and registered 20 assists in all competitions.
The only slight concern I have with these reports is Mitoma primarily plays on the left wing, and I don’t think we’ll require a replacement for Marcus Rashford.
Roberto De Zebri will be trying to keep him in the summer, which will be the case with any manager if we approach clubs to sign their star players.
