Manchester United interested in former Liverpool flop ahead of potential summer move

Manchester United are continuing to scour the market for potential midfield recruits this summer and now, former Liverpool player Marko Grujic has emerged as a shock target for the Reds.

Erik ten Hag is keen on further strengthening the squad and there are some areas in pressing need of additions, with midfield still being one of them.

Ten Hag has signed three midfielders since he took charge of the club last year but January loan signing Marcel Sabitzer is expected to return to Bayern Munich at the end of the campaign and Christian Eriksen’s untimely injury has ruled him out for over two months.

Casemiro’s lengthy suspension is the most recent blow to United’s depth in midfield, revealing exactly why Ten Hag is still keen on bringing another player or two in.

In a surprising twist, it has been suggested that Grujic is now a player United could be looking to bring in. That’s according to Serbian outlet Telegraf, via the Metro.

Grujic joined the Portuguese giants in 2020 on a permanent deal from Liverpool and now, it’s claimed that his fine performances have attracted the interest of United and Italian powerhouse AC Milan.

As per the report, United’s interest is real and the club has even contacted intermediaries to explore a potential deal. It is, however, claimed that Grujic could end up turning a move down due to his history at Liverpool.

Grujic joined Liverpool in 2016 but endured an excruciating four years at Anfield before eventually sealing a move. Over his spell at the Merseyside club, he spent three seasons on loan at Cardiff and Hertha Berlin, making just eight first-team appearances at Liverpool.
