Man United and Liverpool keen on signing Premier League star wanted by Barcelona

The start of the summer transfer window is approaching and Erik ten Hag will be keen on strengthening his squad further, having already overseen a large turnover of players in his first nine months in charge.

Ten Hag made it his priority to add firepower in midfield and the additions of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have done just that, with the January loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer adding depth.

United are, however, still light in that area and Wolverhampton midfielder Ruben Neves is a player the club has held a longstanding interest in.

Neves joined Wolves when they were in the Championship and have since then helped them establish themselves as a stable Premier League club.

He is, however, approaching the end of his contract at the Molineux and there have been links to some of Europe’s elite clubs. Now, it’s being claimed that Manchester United are among the clubs interested in the Portugal international.

That’s according to Football Insider, who say that United and rivals Liverpool have moved ahead of La Liga giants Barcelona in the race to sign Neves.

As per the report, Scott McTominay and Sabitzer could both leave the club this summer and that means a move for Neves is being considered.

Liverpool find themselves in a similar situation, with Jurgen Klopp looking to offset the blow of potentially losing three midfielders to expiring contracts this summer.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that Wolves would not be opposed to seating at the negotiation table as the 26-year-old has just one more season remaining on his current deal.
