Newcastle set to pursue out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder in summer

Newcastle United are lining up a move for Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.

That is according to The Telegraph, which confirms that Eddie Howe has outlined the Scotland international as a perfect fit for his project at St. James’ Park.

Howe will seemingly capitalise on the fact that McTominay has fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag in a bid to prise him away from Old Trafford, where he has spent all his senior career.

The 26-year-old joined Carrington Academy at six years old and graduated through the youth ranks to become a key player in the senior setup. However, the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, as well as Fred’s resurgence in form, have seen his time on the pitch limited to mainly substitute appearances this term.

McTominay to the Magpies?

The Magpies are now planning to ignite a deal at the end of the season, almost one year on from Howe initially adding McTominay to his midfield shortlist.

Meanwhile, the player is open to making the switch due to Newcastle’s outstanding revival under Howe, as well as their likelihood of playing Champions League football next season.
