Marcus Rashford withdraws from England squad due to injury – what it means for United

Marcus Rashford has been forced to withdraw from the England camp due to injury.

The forward reportedly picked up a knock during yesterday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham and exited in the closing stages of the game (83rd minute).

It was United’s last match before the final international break of the season, which will take place over the coming fortnight. Numerous first-team players have been called up to play during the next two weeks, including the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Gareth Southgate had also chosen Rashford to represent the Three Lions again, despite using him sparingly throughout the World Cup last year, but the 25-year-old will stay in Manchester to work on his fitness and recovery until club football resumes.

What it means for United

Provided his injury is nothing serious, this is a huge bonus for United. Rashford is the club’s top goalscorer this term and his prolific form and 27 goals has the side competing on all fronts; third in the Premier League, in FA Cup semi-finals and the Europa League quarter-finals.

He has featured in 44 games this season, with the club playing every midweek and weekend game on offer so far, and will undoubtedly be suffering from intense fatigue.

Hopefully, Rashford can use the end of March to rest and be ready to pick up where he left off for the Reds when they return to action on April 2 against Newcastle United.
