Manchester United learn Harry Kane asking price amid speculation of summer pursuit

Tottenham Hotspur have outlined the minimum fee they would accept for Harry Kane amid interest from Manchester United.

According to Times Sport, Spurs will demand £100 million in one up-front payment to see their star striker leave for the Red Devils.

It’s believed that the London club have set Kane’s price tag so high to try and deter their fellow Premier League rivals from signing him this summer, as clubs often tend to pay transfer fees in instalments. In 2021, they rejected a £75 million bid for the forward from Manchester City.

The report suggests that Kane is keen on staying in England despite interest from European giants such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as Alan Shearer’s league record of 260 goals is in reaching distance and in the back of his mind, with his 206th goal hitting the back of the net at the weekend.

Could Kane stay at Spurs?

The 29-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 campaign, though he is willing to begin negotiations with Spurs regarding an extension.

Given he’s a product of their academy, the club are less bothered about him leaving as a free agent next year, and they would likely much rather keep him than sign an alternative.

Should Kane stay, United will still need to acquire a world-class forward in the summer. Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko are reportedly two options on Erik ten Hag’s shortlist.
