Manchester United could rival Liverpool in pursuit of 20-year-old Spanish midfielder

Manchester United and rivals Liverpool are eyeing a move for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

According to ESPN, the Spaniard has been linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid recently, with the two Premier League clubs now closely monitoring the situation.

The report also suggests that Newcastle United, AC Milan and Napoli are interested in Veiga, whilst Bournemouth and Leeds United pursued him in January but failed to oversee deals.

Erik ten Hag is keen on bolstering his midfield in the summer transfer window and alongside several top names, such as Jude Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong, Veiga could be one realistic prospect to bring to Old Trafford.

Veiga’s release clause

The 20-year-old’s release clause is set at €40 million, though Celta are aiming to renew his contract and increase the amount, as they likely feel they can make Europe’s heavyweights pay significantly more for the starlet.

Meanwhile, the midfielder is expected to receive a Spain call-up for the forthcoming EURO 2024 qualifiers.
