Xavi highlights ‘exceptional’ Man United star as potential UEL ‘difference maker’

Manchester United are set to welcome La Liga giants Barcelona to Old Trafford on Thursday night for a huge second-leg Europa League play-off game.

The Red Devils are narrowly ahead at half-time in the tie after registering a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp last week.

Knowing that his team are in a good position to reach the competition’s Round of Last 16, manager Erik Ten Hag will be placing a lot of emphasis on beating his Spanish rivals tonight – it won’t be easy though, especially with the Catalan outfit needing to score in order to keep their European hopes alive.

Going back to last week’s first leg in Spain, although it was United who fell behind after Marcos Alonso opened the scoring after 50 minutes, attacker Marcus Rashford once again came to his side’s rescue scoring a momentum-swinging equaliser just two minutes later.

Rashford’s Europa League goal was his 22nd of the season which he quickly added to after netting a brace against Leicester City during United’s 3-0 thumping on the weekend. Now on 24 goals for the campaign, United’s number 10 is undoubtedly enjoying his best-ever season in a red shirt and is arguably the world’s most in-form player.

Consequently, the 25-year-old has earned some high praise from Barcelona midfield legend, and now manager, Xavi.

“Rashford is an exceptional footballer, in extraordinary form,” Xavi told reporters in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by MEN.

“He can make the difference for Manchester United. You need to be aware he’s there, but the team are more important than an individual player.”

United against Barcelona is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m (UK time) and will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
