Gary Neville urges Antony to be more like Man City star

Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. Gary Neville was on commentary for Sky Sports and named one player who needs to start improving.

I shared a tweet late last night about how I thought people were jumping quickly to criticise Antony in his first season at the club. With no previous experience in English football, it should go without saying that we need to be patient with a young winger like Antony.

During the first half of last night’s game at the City Ground, Antony went one-on-one with a Forest defender before cutting inside onto his favourite left foot and sending his effort over the bar.

Neville gave his assessment of Antony and stated that the Brazilian winger needs to be less predictable and more like Man City’s Riyad Mahrez.

Neville said (via Daily Mail): “I’ve been thinking a lot about Antony in the last few days. He needs to develop that (Riyad) Mahrez side of things to be able to go both ways.

“At the moment he’s still a little bit predictable in trying to always force it once his left foot.”

Antony did well against Forest and I think people would have been raving about his performance had he scored in the first half. He is only 22-year-old and I think Ten Hag will be happy with his overall contribution thus far this season.

Ten Hag is demanding more from his winger which is something he will do with most of his players between now and the end of the season.
