Tom Keane leaves Manchester United after interim stint as head of football negotiations

Tom Keane has left Manchester United after overseeing an interim role as head of football negotiations.

According to The Athletic, he was brought in to replace Matt Judge in June 2021, meaning United’s hierarchy will now be seeking a suitable figure to take over the position.

Keane played a key role in bringing both Casemiro and Antony to Old Trafford. He flew to Spain in the summer with director of football John Murtough to speak to the former Real Madrid midfielder directly and agree terms ahead of his proposed move.

Club sale impacting job appointments

He was initially on an 11-week placement which came to its end when the transfer window closed, but the club deemed him a good fit to stay long-term.

However, the report also confirms that the “uncertainty” regarding United’s future and ownership has changed plans – certain appointments are paused until there is full clarity on the sale of the club.
