Erik ten Hag keen on reigniting pursuit of prolific forward in summer transfer window

Manchester United could reignite their pursuit of Goncalo Ramos in the summer transfer window after being linked with him throughout the World Cup.

According to Portuguese outlet O Joga, Erik ten Hag is an admirer of Ramos and has outlined the 21-year-old as the long-term solution to United’s striker woes.

The forward has 17 goals in 26 matches for Benfica this season and has proven his ability to perform at the highest level, having netted a hat-trick on his World Cup debut in Qatar last month.

He may come at a hefty cost, though, as his contract with the Primeira Liga side runs until 2025 and has a release clause of €120 million included in it. His young age will likely play a significant part in Benfica’s high valuation, as he is a prolific goalscorer already and still has time to improve and develop his game.

United unable to spend in January

United have been strapped for cash in the winter transfer window, hence their only attacking arrival being the loan signing of Wout Weghorst from Burnley. However, with speculation growing around a potential takeover by the end of the 2022/2023 campaign, things could look vastly different in the summer, and the new owners may aim to secure a statement signing to make a good impression on the Old Trafford faithful.
