Senior figures from Manchester United will invite mid-February offers for minority stakes or total buyout

There have been several key updates regarding the takeover of Manchester United this evening.

Earlier tonight, boyhood Red Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed that his company, INEOS, would begin the formal bidding process to buy the club.

It is now expected that other interested parties will go public with their desires to buyout the Glazer family, who are demanding a fee of more than £5 billion.

According to James Ducker and Tom Morgan of The Telegraph, a ‘host of wealthy Arabic investors’ have held conversations with United. Asia is also showing keen interest, though many potential investors have stressed that currently, it is unconfirmed whether the Glazers want to fully end their reign as owners of the Red Devils.

However, United are expected to inform those interested in the coming days that formal bids “will be taken next month for total buyouts as well as minority stakes”.

The report also stated that senior figures at the club will issue a rallying call for offers to be submitted by mid-February. Avram Glazer is currently in Davos, Switzerland where United “have set up a shop front” to speak to “the world’s political and business elites”.

Next month is key in takeover talks

Various outlets previously suggested that should the Americans oversee a full buyout, it would be done in the first quarter of 2023. Things look to be moving quickly behind the scenes and the coming weeks could be pivotal to the future of Manchester United.
