Rio Ferdinand names six Manchester United players that would get into Man City team

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United have six players that would have a chance at getting into the current Manchester City team.

The two teams face off in the early kick-off on Saturday as United look to put more pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side, who are one place behind league leaders Arsenal.

When the teams last met, City won 6-3 and we’ll be looking for revenge this time out. United were far too passive at the Etihad and we are expecting a better performance at Old Trafford.

It bodes well that United have been the in-form team in the Premier League since the World Cup.

Ferdinand is so happy with how things are going for the Red Devils that he believes United are moving in the right direction to compete with City once again. We currently sit four points behind last season’s league champions having played the same amount of matches.

Speaking to the I newspaper, Ferdinand was asked for his combined United-City XI. He explained his reason for selecting six United players.

“On form, you have to say Marcus Rashford would have to be in the team,” Ferdinand said.

“You’ve got to say [Christian] Eriksen would be in with a shout, Bruno [Fernandes] would be in with a shout. Casemiro or Rodri is a massive one in terms of form.

“The two best holding midfielders in the league. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane would have an argument to get in the team as well, so you could put a good case forward.

“The fact you can have an argument over four or five players getting into the team, or to have a conversation about it at least, is a step in the right direction.”
