Three observations as Manchester United pick off The Cherries

Manchester United made easy work of their win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Make no mistake about it. This was another game against lesser opposition that we should be beating.

On top of that, Erik ten Hag made some calls prior to the game that some fans deemed risky, like leaving both Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez on the bench.

Casemiro gave United an early lead as he volleyed home a free-kick from Christian Eriksen. Then it was Luke Shaw’s turn to get on the scoresheet — netting his first goal at Old Trafford since 2018 — to give the Red Devils a two-goal cushion.

It was only a matter of time before Marcus Rashford joined the list of goalscorers as he made it four goals in four consecutive matches since the World Cup break.

Cherries picked off

Manchester United were far from their best but we were the better side throughout the match, which is something I have noticed is becoming a trend against the lower teams in the Premier League. It’s something worth taking note of because we weren’t doing it last season and that is why United are now moving into a strong position in the league table. Long may it continue because we will be even stronger when Erik ten Hag gets to sign a centre-forward.

Another assist for Eriksen

As mentioned above, our Danish midfielder assisted Casemiro with a free-kick for United’s opening goal against Bournemouth. Eriksen now has eight assists since his Bosman move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Dalot and Licha are back

Although Aaron Wan-Bissaka has put in four consecutive performances to be proud of, I am delighted to see Diogo Dalot return from injury. He’s by far our best right-back and his attacking output is far superior to that of Wan-Bissaka. The Portugal international looked bright when he came on tonight and should be in the starting line-up to face Everton in the FA Cup on Friday night. I’m equally excited about the return of the best defender in the Premier League, Lisandro Martinez. What a boost that is for the big fixtures we have coming up.
