Marcus Rashford admits reason for disciplinary issue after win over Wolves

Erik ten Hag had no problem telling the press that Marcus Rashford was dropped from the starting line-up to face Wolves due to disciplinary reasons.

As we suggested before Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Wolves, it was likely to be something minor because Marcus Rashford does not strike us as somebody who causes trouble.

Rashford was brought on at half-time before issuing the perfect response to his manager.

The 25-year-old revealed after the match that he was benched by Ten Hag because he overslept and missed a team meeting.

Alejandro Garnacho started on the left flank instead of Rashford, but Ten Hag switched both players at the break.

It was the right decision because Rashford turned the game on its head. He provided the spark United needed to get in behind Wolves’ packed defence.

Speaking after the game, Rashford explained why he was dropped from the start and admitted that he accepted Ten Hag’s punishment.

“Yeah, obviously, it is the team rules and I think it is a mistake that can happen,” Rashford told BT Sport. “I am obviously disappointed not to play, but I understand the decision. I am happy that we have managed to win the game anyway. I think we can draw a line under it and move on.”

Rashford was then pushed on the reason for his absence. He added: “I was a little bit late for a meeting. I slept in, overslept. It can happen.”

Nothing to see here. Ten Hag and Rashford shared a lovely moment at the end of the match.

It also worked out in our favour because he was extra motivated to change the game when he came on.
