Chelsea propose club-record transfer fee for United linked Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea are reportedly willing to beat Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez by paying a proposed club-record transfer fee.

The January transfer window is set to get busy because it will be the first opportunity for clubs to sign players after the 2022 World Cup. Manchester United don’t seem to have funds available to make any permanent signings, which could see rival clubs make moves for Erik ten Hag’s targets.

Chelsea are one of those clubs believed to be lurking in the background. Graham Potter will be aware of the fact that both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are out of contract at the end of the season. That means a midfielder will be a priority.

According to the Daily Report, Chelsea have proposed a club-record transfer fee for Fernandez, who returns to Benfica after winning the World Cup in January.

It is understood that Benfica don’t want to lose a star player like Fernandez midway through the season, so he may be involved in a bidding war next summer.
