Enzo Fernandez was easily one of the best players at the World Cup. The Benfica midfielder won the Young Player of the Tournament award for his performances in a successful Argentina side led by Lionel Messi.

The young Argentina midfielder is likely to become one of the most sought after talents in Europe and United have already been heavily linked to the player, even since he came through the ranks at River Plate.

When asked about his future, despite only signing for Benfica in the summer, Fernandez said: “I don’t know anything, that’s why my representative is taking care of. I don’t want to get into the subject. I am focused on Benfica, we have a game on Friday.”

With the January transfer window set to open, a number of players are being linked with moves to Old Trafford, including Fernandez. They include Joao Felix and even Frenkie de Jong.

The one position that Ten Hag and the board should focus on in January is a striker. The team need to score more goals if they are to finish the season strongly.

It raises the question: will Manchester United buy players while the Glazers are trying to sell the club? You are talking north of £100m to pay Fernandez’s release clause and Benfica are not going to let a World Cup winner leave on the cheap.
