Manchester United target Cody Gakpo signs for Liverpool

Manchester United’s transfer target Cody Gakpo has reached an agreement to join Liverpool tonight.

After being linked with the forward for several months, United did not make a bid for Gakpo.

Liverpool then began negotiations in order to beat both United and Chelsea to the signing, offering a fee of around €40-50 million, according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old will travel to England in the coming days to complete the required medical tests before officially signing for the Merseyside team.

United failed to make moves for Gakpo

The Red Devils held talks with Gakpo over the summer before ultimately prioritising the transfer of Antony from Ajax. Speculation has circulated in the past weeks of a potential transfer, though the club failed to make a concrete move.

United are not one for making January signings, even more so in recent years, but a striker is an absolute necessity next month, especially following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The board simply cannot sit back and let Erik ten Hag rely on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for the remainder of the season.

  1. Typical United under the Glazers – hang about / dicker over the price / lose out.
Cue loads of ‘ didn’t really want him ‘ ‘ if he doesn’t want to play for us ‘ type comments, but I, for one , am PISSED OFF
