John Murtough met with CEO of Cody Gakpo’s agency at Carrington

Manchester United’s football director John Murtough may be working behind the scenes to speed up the club’s pursuit of Cody Gakpo.

According to The Athletic, Murtough had met with the CEO of the SEG agency, Kees Vos, at Carrington in the last fortnight. The agency represents both Erik ten Hag and Gakpo, and Vos is a “regular at Old Trafford”.

Whilst it’s unknown what the pair discussed at United’s training ground, it has previously been reported that the Reds have a strong relationship with the agents of Gakpo, which could prove to be a factor that benefits them in talks for the forward.

Similarly, PSV are currently managed by former Red Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is regarded as a legend in United’s history.

United have been tracking Gakpo for several months

United reportedly opened talks with PSV for the 23-year-old last week and the player is keen on joining the club and working under Ten Hag. A deal came close to being agreed upon last summer, though a transfer failed to materialise.

Since then, Gakpo has enjoyed an outstanding start to the season; scoring 13 goals and contributing 17 assists at club level, as well as netting three times at the World Cup for the Netherlands.
